I was losing steam on a busy Friday afternoon at work. I’d already had way too much coffee. I rationalize that another cup was the last thing I needed. But, resistance was futile. Soon after, I gave in to the sweet temptation of a dark roast and felt the familiar surge of adrenaline radiate within. As great as it was to have this energy, I knew that I’d have a hard time winding down to relax after the end of my day
After I finished work, I headed to Ebb n’ Flow to try my first restorative yoga class. Unfortunately, rush hour was not my friend that day. My body tensed up as I sat in traffic watching the clock draw nearer to the start of class. My uneasiness heightened with every minute that passed. When I finally arrived, class had already begun. I felt frazzled.
I peaked my head in to the classroom and made eye contact with Allison- the instructor. She smiled and motioned for me to join. I quietly snuck in, rolled out my mat, sat down and tried to center myself. While I maneuvered into the first pose I was fearful I’d spend class mentally chastising myself for my inability to relax. But I tried my best to take a deep breath in, slowly exhale, and melt into the first pose.
Imagine the best stretch you’ve ever had. Think about the soothing sensation that surges throughout your body when you seep deeper into it. Now imagine that plus candles, pillows, comforting blankets and soothing music for over an hour. Needless to say, after my class was over I felt like an entirely different person. I felt calm and refreshed. It was the perfect end to my week.
Thank you for a wonderful class Allison!
