Tired of beating yourself up? Why do you set goals? Something to work towards, to stay strong or focused? Generally you set a goal while your mind is whirling away with thoughts of how great this will be and how good you will do. You tell yourself you will definitely follow through this time and you are super excited.
Until you slip, fall short of that goal you set, didn't quite make it. Not feeling so good now. Yes, I get it. I do, I understand why. I am right there with you picking up the pieces saying "been there, done that". Life happens. Life places itself right dab in the middle of your path and before you know it that goal you set gets placed on the back burner and when you circle back & remove the lid, it has all but dried up. Your first reaction is to beat yourself up again. That can't be a good thing for you. You are trying to make healthy choices, habits, ways of being. Pause here! Pause, breathe and instead of beating yourself up, give yourself a hug. Yes, a hug and while you are at it, add a smile.
How do you change this pattern? To get to Point A, B or C, take a different approach. Instead of calling it a goal, call it an intention. When you set an intention you look at the whole picture. You look right at A, B or C and know you are on your way. This is where you bring your bag of healthy tools into the whole picture when necessary. These tools are known as balance, support, YOU and forgive.
Balance: how will you create balance in your routine to make this intention available to you? Support: find support from others. Knowing you have it is enough to keep you moving forward.
YOU: the most important tool in the bag. Check in with YOU! Be sure you are headed in the direction that you have chosen always knowing it's okay to stumble or stray from the path because you know A, B or C is still there waiting.
Forgive: be sure to forgive yourself often. You are remember, human, and forgiving yourself not only reminds you of this fact it helps you accept yourself as you are. As you are is a great place to be. This again gives you the opportunity to check in with YOU, look at the whole picture and see that your pot has not been placed on the back burner but instead has accumulated some very healthy ingredients and is on it's way to being an amazing creation. Your intention is waiting for you.
