Sun salutations now have a whole new meaning at Ebb n' Flow Yoga. Beginning this week, the studio now runs on solar energy. Yes!
Solar Energy and Yoga
Solar energy is the most abundant energy source available on earth. According to NOAA, "173,000 terawatts of solar energy strikes the Earth continuously. That's more than 10,000 times the world's total energy use." The sun gives us our energy needs in abundance! Why not tap into this powerful energy source?
Small businesses, such as Ebb n' Floe Yoga, are reaping the benefits. Going solar is another way the studio practices yoga off the mat. Ebb n' Flow Yoga was founded by a mother and daughter team - Kim and Gabrielle Gebo - on the notion that the entire cosmos is an ocean and all life lives within this sea. "It's the ebb and flow of life that always returns us to our true selves," says Kim, "With solar energy, we're really breathing in harmony with all of life."
Good Business Sense
The Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) Solar Market Insight Report named Massachusetts a leader in solar energy. Our state ranks 6th in the country with respect to cumulative solar capacity installed. And Massachusetts makes a strong business case for going solar. Given the falling costs to solar, state and federal tax incentives, and an array of programs to support its affordability, going solar translates into a good business decision. As Chris, Kim's husband and building owner, notes, "What you spend all comes back."
Therefore, Chris Gebo, building owner and Kim's husband, installed two 60-foot long racks of solar panels for the studio and the building with support and guidance from Kevin Gebo, nephew and founder of Intelligent Solar Services of Lancaster, MA. Intelligent Solar Services helped Chris navigate the convoluted dance of system design, permits and installation. Following several months of work, Ebb n' Flow started running on solar about a week ago. "I could not have done it without him," says Chris.
Today, the sun breathes energy into our studio, powering our speakers to sing, lights to shine and salt lamps to work their magic. As solar energy radiates throughout the yoga studio, we look forward to further studio growth. As studio partner Joy states, "This allows Ebb n' Flow Yoga greater capacity for continued growth and an expansion of offerings. We want to continuously meet you where you are - mentally, emotionally, spiritually and financially. We look forward to the broadened possibilities."
Thank you, sun for radiating life-sustaining energy. Thank you, Chris and Kevin Gebo for your ingenuity and brilliance in installing these solar panels. Thank you, Ebb n' Flow Yoga for being so yoga.
Surya namaskar. Flow through it. Find play with the ground as you radiate, naval outward. We hold so much gratitude to the sun. What about you?
