I had never heard of Aerial Yoga before coming to Ebb n’ Flow. Truthfully, since I began my practice here, I’ve been a bit intimidated to try it. I’m not sure why. I’m usually open to new experiences but for some reason I was a bit afraid of Aerial. Actually, now that I think of it, I can conjure up a couple reasons why I was intimidated.
For starters, I have a slight fear of heights and I get anxious when I feel out of control. So, the thought of freely swinging from a silk while high above the floor was something my brain didn’t want to fathom. My resilience was as natural a body process as a knee jerk reaction. Yet, despite my reservations, I’m also aware that the fears we don’t face become our limits. Great things do not always come from comfort zones. So, I decided to step out of my comfort zone and give Aerial a try. Ultimately, I decided to take Stephanie’s Aerial Yoga for Beginner class. My first step into the silk felt as if I were a shy person opening her mouth; nervously uttering the first word to her public speech. Despite the uneasiness I pushed through. In the end my willingness to face my fear was as rewarding as receiving a huge round of applause after a public speech. Stephanie was a great support during my first class. She encouraged me to go at my own pace, listen to my body and instilled confidence in me to try new poses. It was an amazing class. If you would like to broaden your Yoga practice, or just try something new, consider taking an Aerial Yoga class! Namaste~ Jennifer
